The challenge
A top-tier anti-doping agency was eager to mobilize an application modernization initiative for their flagship product to deliver new features for an exciting new partnership with a prestigious global sports authority while at the same time increasing reliability, performance, and security for their application.
This modernization initiative prompted a cloud migration from AWS to Azure. Based on learnings from their previous cloud provider, they understood the importance of establishing a cloud foundation to help them achieve their short-term and longer-term cloud adoption goals.
In the short term, the goal was to help with the initial app modernization effort. In the long run, the objective was to expand the organization's cloud presence more extensively while ensuring the necessary level of governance, security, and compliance.
Dedicated to executing an application modernization initiative and a cloud migration, they chose to reassess their existing system integrators to identify a cloud consultancy partner proficient in cloud-native software engineering particularly in application modernization and adoption of Azure Cloud technologies.
The Solution
To streamline and modernize the client's flagship product and ensure a successful transition to Azure we adopted a strategic approach centered around three core areas: Cloud Architecture Optimization, Governance and Operational Excellence, and Application Modernization. The goal was to provide a holistic solution aligned with the client's business and technical objectives. We achieved this by ensuring synergy across the organization through facilitated discussions that helped identify common goals and fostered cross-functional collaboration to ensure the successful migration to Azure, which served as a key enabler for their application modernization initiative.

Lastly, we evaluated the client's app modernization strategy and implementation roadmap. This assessment was crucial to verify the appropriate use of their selected cloud resources and to provide a custom application landing zone design that would integrate seamlessly with their foundational utilities. This step was integral in ensuring that the application modernization strategy was congruent with the overal cloud adoption goals

We significantly upgraded their security and compliance posture, aligning it with internationally recognized standards such as CIS, NIST, and PCI-DSS. This ensured 100% compliance with the Microsoft Cloud Security Benchmark cloud-centric control areas and elevated the protection of their resources and data. We automated the deployment and management of their infrastructure using Terraform for infrastructure as code and GitHub Actions for all infrastructure deployments. This resulted in a fully automated, end-to-end deployment pipeline that reduced human error and saved significant time and effort. This efficient infrastructure management has boosted the speed and confidence with which changes are made, with all modifications tested, reviewed, and version controlled.

We implemented an operational readiness strategy equipped with the necessary tooling, logging, metrics, and alerts for optimal visibility and control over their applications.
