Our Hiring Methods

Going exceptional lengths to hire the best.

Our hiring methods are an important part of our culture. In order to build for everyone, we know that we need a diversity of perspectives and experiences that ensures only the right people are helping our clients build with purpose. This belief is reinforced in our methods, tools, and processes that power our talent acquisition strategy and our results.

Decoding the whole person

Head, Heart, & Briefcase

When you hire someone, the whole person shows up for the position every day. This is why we prefer a more holistic approach for our hiring methods that leverages the Head, Heart & Briefcase framework to help us evaluate all dimensions of a person. The result? The right people, in the right roles, for the right reasons.

Contrary to popular belief, technical skills are not the primary reason why new hires fail; instead, poor interpersonal skills dominate the list [of reasons why employees fail].

Increased Hiring Efficiency

Rule of “4”

We know the hiring processes can seem overwhelming - from meeting new stakeholders in several interviews to online assessments and more. With that in mind, a study by Google's People Analytics team inspired us to adopt the Rule of "4". Their study determined that 4 interviews were enough to predict a new hires performance with 86% confidence. The result? An improved candidate experience that increase the probability of making the right hire in shortest amount of time.

Validity and Utility of Selection Methods

The Right Questions.

Interviews. Everyone has them. And everyone wishes they had more effective processes to get to know someone on a deeper level. With that in mind, we leveraged a well documented study on The Validity and Utility of Selection Methods in Personnel Psychology to shape our selection methods during the interview process. The result? By looking for the right types of behaviours, cognitive ability, passion, values, and skills, we increase our predictability for successful hires.

Our Interview Process

First Milestone

Initial Video Chat

Before diving into more in-depth interviews, we typically have a introductory conversation which is conducted by a member of the hiring team. Using structured and open-end questions we learn about their skillset, interests, ambitions, and relevant experience to assess the initial fit for both parties.

Second Milestone

Take Home Challenge

The candidate will then be given a challenge that will help us determine their level of knowledge, skills, and experience in any specific domain. This can come in the form of a case study, presentation, technical challenge, etc.

Third Milestone

Presentation & Deep Dive

We use case interviews as an opportunity to see the candidate in action. Together, we dive deep into the presentation which help us understand how they think and approach opportunities, how they leverage their distinct experiences and perspectives, how they would interact with members on our team, and their most dominant strengths and areas for growth.

Fourth Milestone

Top Grade Interview

The Top Grade interview is our final milestone in the interview process. It helps us build a comprehensive picture of a candidate's professional background, personality, patterns of success, and potential synergies with the team. It can go up to two (2) hours or more depending on how much experience they have, how many jobs they have held, and their educational background. There's nothing for the candidate to prepare for this, it's just the story of you.
